I hope to help you reach and maintain a healthy weight without dieting or struggling to do so. Please take a few minutes to read these questions and answers. Doing so will help you better understand the facts and the myths about hypnosis, as well as how it’s used to help people make positive habit and behavioral changes. If you have additional questions, or want to talk with Linda, the office manager, or want to talk with me, just call 908-301-0039. If you prefer, you can email me directly at DrRonGlassman@yahoo.com. Moreover, all information shared with us is treated with sensitivity and shall always remain confidential. Not everyone is a candidate for clinical hypnosis. People with the following conditions are not good candidates for hypnosis: brain injury, dementia, seizure disorder, stroke and certain mental illnesses. Any condition that impairs normal brain function is less likely to achieve maximum benefit from medical hypnosis. |

Frequently Asked Questions
|
|
|
1. Will my appointment be private and confidential? Yes. I do not offer group sessions because they typically produce lower success-rates compared to an individualized approach. A private appointment allows me to customize the visit to you and your specific food triggers. Federal law requires your appointment to be 100% confidential, so whatever we discuss remains between us unless you sign a release form. About 96% of my clients experience their desired changes in eating habits. These changes remain as long as you are following my directions for long-term success. The technique I use is designed to produce a change of mind about what you eat and how much you eat. This can happen only when you follow my directions. 3. How many appointments will I need? Most of my clients need just two appointments. Some need three, but it’s unusual. 4. How long will my appointments take?
5. How can I succeed with just two or three appointments? I have a very specific “recipe” for success. You are going to receive a recording of your hypnosis session. This is not a generic recording: it is a recording of your specific session, so it’s customized for you. It is vital that you listen to the recording, as you fall asleep, every night between your first and second appointment. This reinforces the in-office session. In the second office visit, we’ll discuss the changes you’re experiencing and I’ll create another CD for you. You’ll need to use CD#2 every night for two weeks, thus doubling the reinforcement. CD#2 will be a little different from the first CD. After the two weeks of reinforcement has concluded, you’ll call or email me and tell me how you’re doing. If your eating habits have changed, and you’re losing weight without dieting or feeling deprived, then there’s no need for the third session. You’ll continue to use CD#2 every other night until you reach your desired weight. Once you reach your desired weight, I recommend using CD#2 at least once every two weeks for long-term maintenance of your new eating habits and your new weight. Remember, it’s the repetition of the message that reinforces your new eating habits. It’s this process that accounts for my clients’ high success-rates, and this is why you need so few appointments with me. You are doing the reinforcement yourself. In case you are wondering why listening to the CD as you fall asleep is the best time, here’s why: All humans experience a natural state of deep hypnosis as we are falling asleep. Therefore, this is the best time to reinforce a change of habit, behavior, preference or desire. 6. How will I know if I need the third appointment? What’s different about it? You only need the third appointment if you don’t experience all of the changes in eating habits we set out to achieve. If the third visit is needed, I’ll use a different technique and create a new CD for you. You’ll use the new CD for two weeks and call or email me with your results. Over 80% of clients do not need the third appointment, but in the interest of full disclosure, it is a possibility. I want to be completely up-front about this: less than 20% of people need the third session. The third session is about 60 to 90 minutes. 7. Can I drive after the appointment? Yes, of course. You’ll feel relaxed, but you’re fully awake during and after the session. Yes. The actual hypnosis session is not conducted by phone. After we have the discussion and consultation on the phone (just as we would do if you were in the office), I’ll then record your CD. The CD is mailed to you for use at home. I have helped hundreds of people all over the US, and abroad, without ever meeting them. The success-rate is the same whether you come into the office or not. 9. Can I address two issues at the same time? Technically, the answer is yes. But my policy is to work with one person at a time and address one issue at a time. This is why my success-rate is so high. Working with multiple people and multiple issues lowers the success-rate. I have never conducted group sessions, nor have I addressed multiple issues simultaneously, and I never will. Doing so is simply not prudent. Please contact Linda, the office manager, regarding fees. The phone number is 908-301-0039. 11. What’s your success-rate for helping people change eating habits? About 96% of my clients succeed when they follow my directions. Directions will be provided in writing, so you’ll know exactly what to do to maximize your long-term success. We are also available to guide you by phone or email in the event you have a question. 12. Can you guarantee my success? I will tell you your chances of success based on my many years of experience working with thousands of clients of all ages is about 90%. 13. When I get stressed or anxious I eat. Will you help me manage stress? Yes. I teach every client a simple stress management technique. Practicing the technique regularly will help you succeed. In fact, it will help you in many ways, because people who manage stress are overall healthier and happier. 14. So, the bottom line is there are three steps to your weight-loss approach? Yes. To maximize success, you will need to (A) have your private appointments (B) use your customized recording as indicated, and (C) practice the stress management technique that I teach you. Hypnosis is a relaxed state during which your attention is highly focused. You are awake during hypnosis. You are in control of yourself and your actions. You are aware of everything going on. All you feel is relaxed. It’s equivalent to a daydream. All humans experience a natural state of hypnosis as we fall asleep at night. It’s that “twilight” state that we go through just before falling asleep. You’ve been in that state thousands of times in your life. Everyone has. There’s no such thing as a person who does not experience the state of hypnosis. 16. Can you make me do something inappropriate during hypnosis? No. That only happens in the movies! You always know what’s going on during the relaxed state of hypnosis because you’re not asleep. You’re just relaxed. 17. Are those hypnosis acts in nightclubs and in the movies real? Of course not. Unfortunately, those silly portrayals of hypnosis tarnish the public’s perception of hypnosis. Remember, that’s an act, pure entertainment. No one can make you do something you do not want to do while in the relaxed state of hypnosis. You have my word as a professional: your experience in this office will be nothing like what you have seen in movies or in nightclubs. 18. Is it true medical hypnosis is recognized by the AMA? Yes. The American Medical Association, The American Dental Association and The American Psychological Association all recognize hypnosis for its medicinal benefits. In fact, the AMA recognized it in 1958, so it is not new and it is not experimental. It’s a well-established, drug-free technique with broad applications. 19. Why isn’t hypnosis more common in the US? It’s more common in America than ever before. But it’s much more common throughout the rest of the world. Remember, the US healthcare system is a pharmaceutical-surgical model of care. This means it is based primarily on the use of medications and surgery. However, in areas of the world where pharmaceutical companies have less of an influence, it’s quite normal for a physician to incorporate drug-free techniques into his or her practice. This is why the medical use of hypnosis is more common outside the US. As more Americans demand more drug-free treatments, medical hypnosis and other integrative techniques (such as acupuncture) will become mainstreamed. Another reason medical hypnosis is less popular here than other countries is due to the many myths and misconceptions that surround it. No, not at all. Hypnosis has been used in all societies around the globe for centuries. Today, it’s practiced in about 20% of US hospitals and it’s taught in many clinical programs and universities, from Harvard to Oxford. 21. Is it true medical doctors and registered nurses practice medical hypnosis? Yes, some do. In fact, some dentists and chiropractors are trained in it, too. 22. Why are there are so many myths about hypnosis? There are so many misconceptions about hypnosis. I’ve been in health care for nearly 30 years, and I still hear new misconceptions about it almost daily. So, take a moment to read this. Know the facts. If you attempt to benefit from hypnosis, going into the process with misguided notions will not help you achieve and maintain your goals. Myth: You’re asleep during hypnosis. Myth: Some people don’t experience
hypnosis. Myth: You’re in a coma during hypnosis. Myth: You’re out of control during
hypnosis. Myth: You lose your moral values during
hypnosis. Myth: Hypnosis is brainwashing. Myth: Only geniuses experience hypnosis. Myth: Only gullible people experience
hypnosis. Myth: Only children experience hypnosis. Myth: Women are more successful with
hypnosis compared to men. 23. Will my life or medical insurance go down when I lose weight? Many insurance plans reward their customers with lower premiums when they lose weight. Check with your insurance agent about this. 24. Is it true I can deduct the cost of your services on my taxes? This might be the case. Please ask a certified public accountant (CPA) about this, as I cannot give tax advice. 25. What’s your professional background? 26. Can I read some testimonials? Following are a few unsolicited testimonials from the hundreds we get every year. Each testimonial reprinted here is an exact quote as it appears in the client’s letter. All testimonial letters are on file in the office for your review. You are welcome to come in and peruse these files. Please call first (908-301-0039) to be sure Linda, the office manager, will be in when you stop by. Due to federal confidentiality laws, I cannot disclose the names of the clients who were nice enough to take the time to write. “You are right. I just don’t want to eat the way I used to. This is nothing like a diet. I have had a true change of mind about food. I lost 35 pounds. And I am keeping it off as easily as I lost it. If I were on a diet, I’d already be giving in to temptation. But I simply don’t crave the junk anymore. And if I don’t want it, how can I be tempted by it? You have been so good to me. Thank you for everything.” Samantha E., a teacher in Union County, NJ, needed three appointments to change her food preferences and portion sizes. “You might recall that I was referred to you by my orthopedic surgeon in West Orange. He wouldn’t do my knee replacement until I lost 50 pounds. It would have never happened without your help. I am having surgery next week and just wanted to say how much I appreciate you.” Harris V., a small business owner in Passaic County, NJ, needed two appointments to change his food preferences and portion sizes. “As you know, I reached my goal weight loss of 115 pounds. But did you know that it’s been four years since I lost it? I have been on diet after diet. The difference with hypnosis is that I don’t want to eat the way I used to. It’s like I have new software in my head, and that software says focus on small portions and healthy choices. I know I could eat anything, but I just want the good stiff. I’m not deprived of a thing, just as you said. Thank you, thank you, thank you.” Lauren L., a teacher from Passaic County, NJ, needed three appointments to change her food preferences and portion sizes. “I read your book. Then I made the appointment. I am doing so well. I’m losing weight not because I’m depriving myself, but because I don’t want to eat the way I used to. Weight loss is really about changing the mind... the belly fat follows! I can’t say it any other way other than it’s like a reprogramming of what food means to me.” Kelly R., a college student from New Haven, CT, needed two appointments to change her food preferences and portion sizes. “I love you. I Love you. I love you. 135 pounds gone.” Karen L., an educational consultant from Union County, NJ, opted for my support program. She’s been at her goal weight for five years and sees me about once every few weeks. “You, Dr. Glassman, are going to heaven. There’s no doubt about it.” Shelly G., a retired registered nurse from Chicago, IL, needed two appointments to change her food preferences and portion sizes. “I love living in a world where food isn’t in control of me. I’m not deprived of anything.” Sharon C., a homemaker in Passaic County, NJ, needed two appointments to change her food preferences and portion sizes. "I remember you telling me that you used to be obese, so you’ll totally understand what I’m going to tell you. It is the greatest feeling in the world to no longer live to eat. I will never forget how you helped me conquer this struggle I was in, and it really was a struggle. I’ve been ‘free’ now for more than five years, and it’s wonderful.” Liz Y., an electrical engineer from Passaic County, NJ, needed two appointments to change her food preferences and portion sizes. “I was referred to you by my wife. I watched her lose over 60 pounds with your approach. If I didn’t see it I wouldn’t have believed it. Her blood pressure is normal again and her blood sugar is better than it’s been in ten years, according to her doctor. In fact, she’s off her medication now. I’m coming in to see you next week. I’m ready to do this. I just wanted you to see this email before I came for my appointment.” Merrill T., a retired postal employee from Union County, NJ, writing on behalf of his wife, Elinor. Elinor needed three appointments to change her food preferences and portion sizes. “My cardiologist gave me your name saying that several of his patients have come to you for weight loss and smoking cessation. I was surprised that a medical doctor believed in going to a therapist that didn’t use medication. I am so appreciate of his referral and for meeting you. I am doing so well and I am not struggling or feeling deprived of anything. I just want to eat less and I no longer use food to feel good. I sincerely thank you.” Glenn K., a real estate broker in Union County, NJ, needed two appointments to change his food preferences and portion sizes. “It’s been three years since you helped me stop smoking and since I lost almost 100 pounds. I feel great. I know I say this every year, but, once again, thank you for everything. You are an important part of my life.” Dennis L., a small business owner in Union County, NJ, needed two appointments to change his food preferences and portion sizes (and one visit for smoking cessation). |
